The list of cheeses not to eat is growing. Additional analyzes revealed the presence of listeria in an older batch of soft cheeses manufactured by the companies Eberle Spezialitäten and Strähl Käse, the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (FSVO) announced on Tuesday.
The authorities had already issued two warnings, on October 27 and 29. With the discovery of this new contamination, the recall is now extended to other products. Both manufacturers have withdrawn them from sale.
The OSAV recommends that consumers not eat the affected cheeses. An infection with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria is usually mild in a healthy person, but can cause serious complications in the elderly or immunocompromised people, young children, and pregnant women. During pregnancy, it can in particular cause a miscarriage, indicates the OSAV.
